RETHINKING INFORMALITY
The spread of slums is growing every year in Beirut. Hay El Tanak-Wata Mousaytbeh is one exceptional camp that grew to house rural migrants and considered to be one of the poorest slums. Therefore, the project aims to accompany slum dwellers through a health recovery to undergo ‘unslumming’ process, which will occur gradually based on an adaptable architecture. First phase will boost the slum’s economic status, by inserting mixed use architecture as a social and economic catalyst. Second phase will help slum dwellers upgrade their living by implementing new foundation that embraces the chaotic past while engaging in innovative mixed urban typologies.
